POETRY

In March of 2003 I was homeless in Arizona with Chase Spivey. In this foray of of a vagabond lifestyle, I began to question the assumptions I had been fed my entire life. Over 15 years later and I realize that while the idea of a singular being that is in control of the entire world is not only a dictatorship, but also a fading idea. The inner strength and goodness of humanity is the only shred of God that is still alive, can we foster this energy into a new form of righteousness?

March 8th, 2003

And the cool love of God came down on me
like an enemy, suffocating
ever breath out of my frail body.

And then Satan did erupt, in flame
made god never look the same again
like a burnt up cracker
served at communion square,
see that bottle of wine over there?
Let’s pour it out, on the ground
We’ll pretend that’s how we found
it in the first place,
in the first place

Like Nieche said, “God is dead.”

Don’t write my name
in your book of life
no F in the word
big fucking lie.

I am your leper
your curse has caused
my soul to crumble.
Put mud in my eyes,
neglect to wash it away
but I have found the water
as I blindly went astray.
Tell no lie, the water’s
cold, piercing like your nails
Here I stand, innocent pure
naked and dripping
my past a mere phantom
and Jesus,
I can’t tell you from Adam

Like Nieche said, “God is dead.”
